Sound Generations - Seattle, WA.

In an era where technology permeates nearly every aspect of daily life, access to digital tools and the internet has become essential. Recognizing the critical need to address digital inequity, Sound Generations, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults in the Puget Sound area, launched its Digital Equity Program. This initiative aims to empower older adults by providing the necessary resources and skills to confidently navigate the digital world.

This program focuses on helping older adults build digital skills and access resources online through in-person group classes (building skills and peer connections) and individual tech help appointments. Digital navigators guide participants to build a foundation of basic phone and computer skills, expand their digital literacy to make informed decisions, and access affordable devices and internet service. Providing consistent, individual support allows digital navigators to build relationships and tailor support to elders in a patient and friendly environment. Community members can rely on these services to help them navigate digital barriers and use technology as a tool to improve their lives.

The Digital Equity Program has made significant strides in reducing isolation and enhancing the quality of life for many older adults. Participants report feeling more connected to family and friends, better informed about health and wellness, and more engaged in their communities. The program also opens doors for new opportunities for learning, entertainment, and socialization, helping seniors lead more fulfilling lives.

As Sound Generations continues to expand the reach of the Digital Equity Program to serve more seniors across the region, the JTMF Foundation is pleased to partner by providing much-needed funding. As technology continues to evolve, programs like these are essential in ensuring that everyone can benefit from the digital revolution.
