HOPE Dementia Support is truly a grass roots organization that does much to help the community with very little. General operating support helps them fulfill their mission.
HOPE Dementia Support – Vancouver, WA
The JTMF Foundation is proud to have partnered with HOPE to help those with dementia, their families and caregivers. Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning, thinking, remembering, reasoning and behavioral abilities to such an extent that it interferes with a person’s daily life and activities. While dementia is more common as people grow older (up to one third of all people age 85 or older may have some form of dementia), it is not a normal part of aging. When we consider that more than 7 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and more than 18 million Americans serve as unpaid caregivers (2022 figures), it is clear the need for support is great.
In January of 2012 a nonprofit was formed, “HOPE, a dementia support group”. With the mission of providing support, education and advocacy for the care partners and their loved ones living with dementia, HOPE recognized a very important need. HOPE support groups were soon expanded, both in Vancouver, WA. and the Portland, OR. metro area. As HOPE grew, in 2018, they began to partner with the community to increase support options, allowing them to serve a larger number of individuals. HOPE continues to expand and enhance through a dedicated committee working tirelessly to create helpful programs for those affected.
HOPE has pioneered several unique and effective programs to help those suffering from dementia and their caregivers. Programs include MaryAnn’s Babies, Rays of HOPE, Dementia Activity Box and HOPE Walks Trail Maps.
As America ages, both HOPE and the JTMF Foundation recognize the need to help those suffering from all forms of dementia and the adverse impact on the entire family and caregivers. The JTMF Foundation is proud to provide financial support to HOPE and their mission of helping others.
