Store to Door - Portland, Oregon

Founded in 1989, Store to Door began with a simple mission — to support homebound seniors and people with disabilities by providing them with essential grocery shopping services. What started as a small, volunteer-driven initiative has grown into a vital resource for hundreds of Portlanders who struggle to access basic necessities.

Store to Door is not only a service that delivers groceries but also brings companionship and care. Volunteers begin by taking orders over the phone. Volunteer teams shop to fill the grocery orders. Additional volunteers deliver the groceries right to the clients’ homes, staying for a chat and offering a friendly face to those who might not see another person all week. For many clients, the deliveries became a lifeline — not just for food, but for a sense of connection to the outside world.

Over the decades, Store to Door has grown tremendously. While visiting clients, volunteers often witnessed those who had vital needs outside the services they offered.  With these needs in mind, Store to Door began an initiative to establish a Resource Referral Program to help clients find other vital services.  When JTMF Foundation learned of this initiative, and the help it provides older individuals and those with disabilities, they were pleased to support the programs expansion with a two-year grant.

At its core, Store to Door is about more than just groceries — it’s about dignity, independence, and community. Through its simple yet profound services, the organization ensures individuals won’t have to choose between eating and living in their own home. It's a story of compassion, resilience, and the power of neighbors helping neighbors, quietly making a difference one delivery at a time.  The JTMF Foundation is proud to support their mission.
