Senior Center Accessibility, Generator & Operating Support - Klamath Falls, OR

For over 50 years, the Klamath Basin Senior Center has worked to promote senior citizen participation in all aspects of community life by facilitating activities and opportunities for socialization, recreation, proper nutrition, physical fitness, mental fitness, education, the arts and volunteerism.  They predominantly support adults aged 60 and over and people with disabilities.  Through their services, they strive to enable better health and improved self-esteem all while making the Klamath community a more livable place to be and an attractive community for economic development.

With 24 staff (16 FTE) and 120 volunteers, they reach nearly 4,000 senior residents directly each year with more than 77,000 meals, 9,500 health class units, 13,000 assisted transportation rides and numerous other programs.  Indirectly, the entire community benefits from the work done by Klamath Basin Senior Citizens’ Center.

In 2022, the Klamath Basin Senior Center launched a capital campaign to provide much needed building and equipment improvements.  The campaign was designed to address three principal objectives; accessibility issues, ensure ability to sustain services during power interruptions, and the maintenance of equipment that will ensure the ability to provide a sanitary and virus free environment.

The JTMF Foundation was able to partner with Klamath Basin to help achieve these goals.  JTMF provided a $50,450 dollar grant to assist with the installation of a backup generator for times when power interruptions occur as well as a lift to the second floor for those with limited mobility.  In addition, JTMF provided a $5,000 general operating grant to help with everyday expenses.

The Klamath Basin Seniors’ Center provides crucial services to seniors in their community.  The JTMF Foundation is proud to support their mission through funding for these capital projects and general assistance.
