Community Action Team’s Lend-A-Hand program provides minor repairs which have a major impact on the seniors they help by improving the safety and livability of their homes.
Lend-A-Hand - Portland Metro Area, Oregon
Lend-A-Hand program is operated by the Community Action Team (CAT), serving Columbia, Clatsop, and Tillamook counties in Oregon. Through this program, minor residential repairs and necessary accessibility upgrades are provided to seniors, the disabled and Veterans free of charge. This is needed work that individuals are unable to complete on their own due to cost, their abilities or often both. However, the minor improvements have a huge impact on the livability and safety of their homes.
CAT’s innovative Lend-A-Hand program utilizes a skilled volunteer base combined with CAT staff to complete the minor repairs and necessary accessibility upgrades. Examples of their work include minor plumbing (replacing a faucet or toilet), installing ramps, adding railings to stairs, caulking windows, providing grab bars, installing door seals, as well as repairing heating and hot water units. The goal of each project is to allow the individual to remain in their home as long as possible.
JTMF’s financial support is helping purchase materials needed by the volunteer contractors to complete the work. We are thrilled to partner with CAT to directly help individuals in their communities.
